Timbaland is a Daddy

November 24th, 2007

Timbaland’s next musical collaboration might be a lullaby.

The rapper-producer and fiancée Monique Idlett welcomed a baby girl a few days ago, People reported Tuesday.

“They’re both really happy together,” a source told the magazine. “They’ve known each other for years.”

Timbaland, whose real name is Tim Mosley, has hit the studio with a mind-boggling number of artists ranging from Dr. Dre to Duran Duran to Björk, but the visionary who helped bring “SexyBack” with Justin Timberlake hasn’t had much to say as far as his nonprofessional partnerships go.

Although apparently he doesn’t mind taking a little business home with him—Idlett is also his publicist.

Timbaland reportedly popped the question last month during the couple’s baby shower and they plan to swap vows sometime within the next year. This will be the first marriage for both.

While the 36-year-old Grammy winner’s fingerprints can be found on no fewer than six recently released or upcoming albums, he also put out his third studio album in April, which reads like a who’s who of hip-hop and then some. Among the voices to be found on Timbaland Presents Shock Value are Timberlake, Nelly Furtado, Elton John, Nicole Scherzinger, Dr. Dre, childhood pal Missy Elliott and Nina Simone.

Lately, Timbaland has been occupied helping Madonna put the finishing touches on her next album, due out early next year, and he has also has produced tracks for upcoming efforts from Ashlee Simpson, Mary J. Blige, Elliott and Jennifer Hudson.

The betrothed new dad recently told Scratch magazine that he’s signed on to work with Beyoncé, Usher and Stevie Wonder in the coming months, as well.

Britney Attorney Sues Anna Nicole’s Estate

November 13th, 2007

It was only a matter of time before the respective train wrecks of Britney Spears and Anna Nicole Smith collided.

Sorrell Trope, the Los Angeles family law specialist currently repping Britney Spears in her custody showdown with Kevin Federline, is suing the estate of the late Playmate over an unpaid bill for services rendered during the Dannielynn paternity circus.

The claim, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court last Wednesday on behalf of his firm, Trope and Trope, asserts that Smith’s estate owes about $162,000 of a $280,000 tab. (View the lawsuit.)

Trope and Trope toiled for Smith from October 2006 to March, per the court documents. The firm’s tenure ended a month after Smith died from an accidental overdose of prescription medication at age 39.

The complaint was delivered to Bruce Ross, counsel for Howard K. Stern. Stern is the executor of Smith’s estate, which is currently in probate.

Ross and Trope did not return phone calls seeking comment.

For now, the sole heir of Smith’s estate is daughter Dannielynn. Stern has filed paperwork seeking 6 percent of any money the estate gets from her late oil tycoon husband, J. Howard Marshall II. Marshall died in 1995, leaving behind a $500 million fortune that his heirs and Smith, his wife of 13 months, are still contesting.

Last month, one of Smith’s ex-boyfriend’s, Mark “Hollywood” Hatten, also went to court seeking a portion of her assets.

Hatten is currently in the midst of a six-year sentence at the Pleasant Valley State Prison for threatening Smith with a knife and assaulting one of her neighbors. He was also accused of stalking Smith after their relationship flamed out but was acquitted of the charge.

Kanye West’s mother has passed away

November 11th, 2007

Dr. Donda West, Kanye West’s mother, suddenly died last night, individuals close to the rapper confirmed.

The cause of death was not released immediately, but she was reportedly in the Los Angeles area when she died.

Kanye West chronicled his mother’s death in “Hey Mama,” a song from his album Late Registration.

In the song, Kanye raps, “(Hey Mama), I wanna scream so loud for you, cuz I’m so proud of you / Let me tell you what I’m about to do, (Hey Mama) / I know I act a fool but, I promise you I’m goin back to school /I appreciate what you allowed for me
I just want you to be proud of me (Hey Mama).”

West eventually performed the song in front of his mother and Oprah Winfrey on the TV host’s highly rated show.

Although she was renown as Kanye West’s mother, Donda West had achieved much on her own.

She served as the Chair of the English Department at Chicago State University, but retired to act as Kanye’s manager. She was an English professor for 31 years.

Earlier this year, she released a book called Raising Kanye, which chronicled her journey of raising her son.

In an interview with AllHipHop, Dr. West said she learned from her son and vice versa.

“Looking at Kanye has made me a more courageous individual, and I already saw myself as being courageous. I believe that Kanye has broken through and gone to levels and done things that I haven’t been able to reach yet,” she told AllHipHop.com. “I have 28 years to his senior so I have a lot of experience. I’ve learned to speak my mind regardless of the consequences. I’ve learned a lot having raised Kanye and being his mother.”

The word of Dr. West’s death has traveled fast through word of mouth, in particular her hometown of Chicago.

“’The city of Chicago is hurting for Kanye West and his family. We know how much he loved and valued his mother and we just ask other cities to join us in prayer for Kanye,” said Kendra G, a Morning Show co-host at Power 92 in Chicago

November 8th, 2007

TMZ obtained this photo of La Lohan with diamond designer Daniel K. of New York, posing here after Lohan peeped at his line of rings. A source inside the store tells TMZ that Lindz was so blinded by the bling that she told staff she was “dizzy” from the ice. A staffer explained it could be a new form of “Diamond Therapy.” Ha!

Lohan spent about an hour shopping for bling, trying on a pair of dazzling earrings before busting out. Shortly after, TMZ caught up with the rehabbed couple having dinner near the store.

Mary Kate’s Love Life

November 7th, 2007

Looks like Mary-Kate Olsen may have had a passion for more than just fashion as she checked out the latest couture offerings in Paris last week. The New York Post says the teensy, septuagenarian-chic starlet got all cultural by engaging in some French-style smooching with an unidentified “scruffy” guy while hanging out at a hot spot. Not an unusual encounter for a 21-year-old in the City of Light, right? Alas, the story soon takes a bit of an apocryphal-sounding turn as the paper claims MK’s “tall” suitor “pushed” her against a wall and “furiously made out with her” as their fellow patrons applauded. But wait, it gets even more French New Wave-y, as the clapping quickly turned into a standing ovation when the frisky twin supposedly wound her twiggy legs around her wooer. And somewhere, Uncle Jesse weeps.

Dog the Bounty Hunter show suspended

November 3rd, 2007

A reality TV show starring celebrity bounty hunter Duane “Dog” Chapman was pulled from the air indefinitely on Friday, two days after a private phone conversation in which he used a racial slur was posted online. Cable channel A&E suspended production of the fifth series of Chapman’s popular show, “Dog the Bounty Hunter,” as the phone call was made public on Wednesday, but on Friday the network went a step further.

“In evaluating the circumstances of the last few days, A&E has decided to take ‘Dog The Bounty Hunter’ off the network’s schedule for the foreseeable future,” an A&E spokesman said.

“We hope that Mr. Chapman continues the healing process that he has begun.”

He said no decision had been made to cancel the program, which is shown in more than 10 countries, and the network will review the situation again in a couple of weeks.

Honolulu-based Chapman, 54, who says he is a devout Christian, has apologized for using the epithet “n—–” to describe a black woman being dated by his son, Tucker, and vowed to do whatever he can to repair the damage.

Chapman’s lawyer was quoted in various media reports on Friday as saying that the conversation posted on The National Enquirer tabloid’s Web site had been leaked by Tucker Chapman — one of the crime-fighter’s 12 children.

Jay-Z regrets early `retirement’

October 19th, 2007

Wait a minute, didn’t Jay-Z say he was retiring TWO albums ago?

“I want to never say that again,” the 37-year-old rap mogul says in XXL magazine’s new issue. “Just make the albums, man. And if one day people wake up and it’s four years later, and you haven’t made another, they go, `Wait a minute, you’re retired!’ I think that’s best for me.”

“I think I pulled the retirement ripcord too many times. People looking at me like, `Please shut up.’ I was looking at (his retirement movie) `Fade to Black’ the other day. I was embarrassed. I couldn’t watch. I’m not playing with you. I had to turn it off,” he says. “I was cringing.”

Jay’s new project is an album about his hustling days, inspired by the upcoming film “American Gangster.” That places him in competition with hot rappers of the moment — like Lil Wayne, who after Jay “retired” proclaimed himself the “greatest rapper alive.”

“I think Lil Wayne is extremely talented,” Jay says. “I think he’s one of the most talented ones out there. I mean, even more so how his delivery is than what he says. I don’t think some of the things he says sometimes are the greatest things, but the way he delivers it, that’s part of it.”

“But do I think me and Lil Wayne should be in the same sentence? Me? No,” Jay says. “I mean, hopefully one day. He has to accumulate work. Put some classics under his belt.”

A superstar girlfriend like Beyonce wouldn’t hurt as an equalizer.

“I think people are only interested in (a relationship) three times: When you get together, when you break up, and when you have a baby,” Jay says. “They don’t have good intentions. People just want to manipulate the situation to benefit them. I think relationships are broken up because of the media.”

Paris wants to shed her party-girl image

October 15th, 2007

The 26-year-old socialite has vowed to change her party-girl image after serving a 23-day jail sentence in June for violating probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case.

“There are a lot of bad people in L.A. Before, my life was about having fun, going to parties — it was a fantasy,” she tells Newsweek magazine in its Oct. 22 issue, now on newsstands. “But when I had time to reflect, I felt empty inside. I want to leave a mark on the world.”

Hilton says she is now committed to using her celebrity status for the greater good. Next month, she plans to pack her bags for Rwanda to bring attention to the African country.

“I’m scared, yeah. I’ve heard it’s really dangerous,” she says. “I’ve never been on a trip like this before.”

Hilton, accompanied by a children’s charity called Playing for Good, will visit schools and health-care clinics as part of a five-day charity mission. The trip will be filmed — not surprising, given Hilton’s love of the camera.

“I love having everything documented,” says Hilton, who hopes to turn the footage into a film. “It shows people what everyday life is like for me, how hard I work. There are a lot of misconceptions about me.”

Hilton says her dating life isn’t as wild as the tabloids make it out to be.

“I’ve been linked to so many guys, but there’s nothing romantic going on at all,” she says. “I get along better with guys than girls. I trust them more. They don’t get all girly and mean. Girls have drama.”
