Information for
Service Pack 1 users
If you have updated your system to Service Pack 1
(SP1), there are some new elements to consider regarding your
system files. When you install SP1, what are you doing is, precisely,
updating your system files. The SP1 installer will shutdown WFP
in order to replace your files at the fly, and will overwrite
almost all the content of the System32 folder.
But, as a way to keep separated the files updated from those
don’t updated, the SP1 installer will create a new backup
folder, plus Dllcache. This new folder is created here:
X:\Windows\ ServicePackFiles\ i386
Be aware that Windows won’t delete the Dllcache
folder. There it will keep the files that haven’t been updated,
so now we have to deal with two system backup folders, the well
known Dllcache and the new i386 folder. What
we’ll need to do in order to replace our system files, is
check when the file we’re tying to replace is located in
the Dllcache folder or when is located in the new i386
folder (don't worry, they never will exist in both folders). Then
we’ll can proceed and replace it using the technique of
our preference.
Note: If you’re using the second technique
described in this tutorial, (rename and move the Dllcache
folder), then you might want to rename and move the i386
folder too in order to get the same result.
